Covid hit us all in different ways, but for many of the less fortunate, the negative effects were tenfold. Here in Fiji, we are very dependent on the tourism industry, the closure of international borders in March 2020 due to the global pandemic meant that many Fijians were left jobless or lost their business, which put them in a position where they could no longer afford to feed their children. This had a direct effect on school attendance, drastically decreasing in 2020. As we sadly witnessed the effects of the global pandemic unfold on our local communities, a realization came to us. How can such a beautiful land be home to such lack of opportunity. What could we do to take advantage of the richness of our land and help our people? Surrounded by Fiji’s rich agriculture, we realised there must be something we can do to yield for the wealth of our community.

Wanting to provide immediate help, we started the local chapter of Eat My Lunch. We partnered with community leaders to donate their love and energy to make lunches, with ingredients we would provide. We were able to send many children back to school and these efforts are still ongoing. Click here to see how you can get involved.

However, it was only a temporary fix in the lives of these students and their parents. We kept feeling that our help should become something sustainable, something that could empower those in need, by giving them the rod instead of the fish.

A Brilliant Idea Takes Root

A few months later, a friend approached us with a brilliant idea – to transform grassroots collectors into thriving business owners, allowing them to scale year after year.

With the vast, untouched lands of Fiji and the rising demand for fresh, natural ingredients among health-conscious consumers, we saw an opportunity to bring pure organic produce to the world. This initiative would also enrich the lives of our collectors, who would otherwise be undervalued by large commercial food suppliers and lack the tools to prosper independently.

That was the turning point! We began planning, researching, connecting, and investing to turn this vision into reality.

From there, Terra Wholefoods was born.

Our Relationship with Collectors

Rooted in Fiji, we share a unique bond with the Fijian community. Our exchanges and shared love for the land foster mutual learning and growth. Thanks to their open-mindedness and desire for advancement, we are able to teach organic practices, bringing the purity of their turmeric to the world. We gain as much from them as they gain from us, and for this, we are truly grateful.
